"The Voice Does Go Up" is a multimedia installation and a performance device that explores the various dimensions and potentials of the voice.
The videos conforming the installation provide a visual reflection on the corporeal conditions that take for the voice to rise up and reach higher realms. The sound piece - disassociated from the images- arranges a conversation weaved by human voice and musical instruments that are traditionally conceived of as possessing the ability of speech and conversation.
The installation becomes an experimental musical performance site for the piece “Chant Down” co-directed by the artists in collaboration with singer Carolina Oliveros. The performance investigates the forces and rebellious energies that inhabit traditional Caribbean songs.
